When I met this dynamic family from Germany, I knew their family shoot would be fun. Their daughter was running in and out of the icy ocean at Llandudno beach, squealing when the waves wrapped themselves around her feet. Her dad chased her and swung her around in the air, while I moved around and photographed them. We all ended up having a great workout too. I love the energy on Llandudno beach, and the beach is pristine with majestic large boulders that are perfect when shooting in bright light. It is a stunning location for a family photo shoot as it’s safe, showcases a beautiful backdrop, and turquoise ocean. The affluent suburb is free of shops and restaurants, so be sure to pack some snacks and drinks before heading there. Llandudno beach is tucked away between Camps Bay and Hout Bay, and both offer an array of cafes and restaurants several minutes drive for you to visit after your photo shoot. The best time for your photo shoot would be at sunrise or an hour before sunset in the summer. On the days where is cloud cover, it’s a little more flexible. Family photo shoots are fun and interactive, and you’ll be given some natural direction on where to look and what to do. This creates unity in the images and allows for a more authentic photo shoot.
Some tips on what to bring to your beach photo shoot:
- A towel, sunscreen, sunhat and flipflop sandals.
- An extra set of clothing – when shooting near the water, sudden waves can splash up against the rocks and soak you.
- Water and some snacks.
