Visiting ‘Die Strandloper’ (translated ‘the beach runner’) is by far, one of my favourite things to just outside of Cape Town. To me, this is the true gem of the West Coast! This rustic, outdoor beach restaurant in Langebaan is an experience you will remember a lifetime! When you arrive, kick off your shoes and sit with your toes in the sand. You will be treated to a feast of seafood dishes and South Africa’s ‘cozy’ foods – mussels steaming in the pot, crayfish on the braai (bbq) , freshly oven baked bread, ‘koeksisters’ just to name a few. As divine as the bread is, go easy on the bread when you start, so you can save space for the full course of food. Enjoy a ‘moer coffee‘ in the homely enamel mugs, synonymous with morning or evenings around a campfire, and found in many South African homes.
Getting there: The 125km drive along the West Coast Road( the R27) takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Bookings need to be made in advance. This is great to do with the whole family, or a group of friends. Make sure you also book an overnight stay so you can enjoy a few beers in the sunshine without having to drive. Besides, you will be too full to drive after this anyway!
